Kraft Pizza Boxes

Custom kraft pizza boxes are made for takeaway, delivery and food-service use, with the size, board strength and print developed around the pizzas you sell. Natural kraft gives the packaging a simple brown appearance, while suitable corrugated construction can provide the rigidity needed for carrying and stacking. Buyer tip: choose the internal size around the finished pizza, allowing enough clearance without leaving excessive movement inside the box.

Structure & product fit

Build the packaging around the product

Packaging dimensions should start with the product and how it needs to be packed, protected, displayed, stored or transported. Internal space, board thickness, closures, inserts and assembly method can all affect the finished structural specification.

01

Measure the maximum product size Record the longest, widest and deepest points, including lids, closures, handles or projecting parts.

02

Define the required clearance Allow the space needed for packing, movement control, protective material or a fitted insert without unnecessarily increasing the box size.

03

Match structure to product weight Product weight, fragility and stacking requirements help determine suitable board strength and structural construction.

04

Consider how the packaging will be used Retail display, gifting, ecommerce, storage, fulfilment and transport can place different demands on the same packaging structure.

MEASUREMENT PRINCIPLE

Unless otherwise agreed, always confirm whether supplied measurements refer to the internal usable space or the external finished dimensions.

Select material around the packaging requirement

There is no single board that suits every product. Material selection depends on structural strength, product weight, presentation, printing, storage, transport and any application-specific requirements.

Material family Typical role Surface & presentation Structural level
Kraft Paperboard Natural-looking cartons, sleeves, retail packaging and suitable lightweight structures. Brown or natural surface with distinctive print behaviour. Light–medium
Folding Boxboard Retail cartons, cosmetics, food, healthcare, gifting and other presentation-led applications. Smooth printable surface suited to detailed graphics. Light–medium
Corrugated Board Mailers, ecommerce, shipping, larger products and packaging requiring increased structural protection. Kraft or white liners with several printing routes available. Medium–high
Rigid / Greyboard Premium presentation boxes, luxury gifting and applications requiring a substantial non-folding construction. Usually wrapped with printed or decorative paper. High rigidity

Printing & finishing

Develop the print specification around the material

Printing and finishing options should be selected after the material and structure are understood. The suitable production route depends on the substrate, artwork, colour requirements, quantity, surface area and intended appearance.

01
PRINTING Choose the print process from the job specification
Digital PrintingSuitable for compatible substrates and projects where digital production provides the appropriate quality and production route.
Lithographic / OffsetUsed where detailed graphics, controlled colour and suitable production volumes justify lithographic printing.
Flexographic PrintingCommonly considered for suitable corrugated, kraft and transport-packaging applications.
Spot / Brand ColoursSpecific colours can be considered where brand consistency or restricted-colour artwork requires them.
02
FINISHING Add surface treatments only where they support the brief
Lamination & CoatingsMatte, gloss or other suitable surface treatments can alter appearance, handling and surface protection.
FoilMetallic, coloured or decorative foil can highlight selected branding or graphic elements.
Embossing / DebossingRaised or recessed areas can introduce tactile depth where the board and structure support the process.

Custom Kraft Pizza Boxes: Plain or Printed, Always Natural

Custom kraft pizza boxes should be built around the pizza size, serving format and delivery requirements rather than chosen only from a stock carton dimension. A small individual pizza, standard takeaway pizza and larger sharing pizza place different demands on the box.

Natural kraft also gives the packaging a recognisable brown-board appearance that can remain plain or carry printed branding. Businesses using the same material look across takeaway, retail or bakery packaging can explore the wider kraft packaging range when planning other formats around the same brand. Craft Boxes currently includes kraft pizza packaging within its broader kraft range.

Get the Pizza Box Size Right

The internal dimensions should follow the finished pizza, not just the nominal diameter used on the menu. Before confirming the box size, check:

  • finished pizza diameter;
  • crust thickness;
  • topping height;
  • overall product depth;
  • clearance needed for easy loading; and
  • whether the pizza will be cut before packing.

A carton that is too small can press against the crust or toppings, while an oversized box can allow unnecessary movement during carrying or delivery. For 4 kraft mini pizza boxes or other small individual-serving formats, the same sizing rule applies. The box should feel intentionally made for the smaller pizza rather than like a reduced version of a standard takeaway carton with excessive internal space.

Kraft Corrugated Board for Pizza Packaging

Many pizza applications benefit from corrugated construction because the fluted layer adds stiffness and helps the box hold its shape during carrying and stacking. A kraft corrugated pizza box should still be specified around the actual pizza weight, box dimensions and delivery conditions. Small lightweight pizzas may not require the same board grade as a large box carrying a heavier product.

The corrugated board guide explains how flute profile, board grade and handling requirements affect structural performance. Craft Boxes distinguishes corrugated board from lighter folding paperboard and positions it where increased protection or transport strength is required. The aim is to choose enough board strength to keep the pack stable without unnecessarily increasing material.

Kraft Pizza Box Packaging for Heat, Grease and Moisture

Pizza creates a different environment from dry retail products. Heat, steam, oils and grease can all affect the board during use. For that reason, the final kraft pizza box packaging specification should consider whether the selected board and any coating or barrier are suitable for the intended food-contact arrangement.

The box should also avoid trapping unnecessary moisture around the pizza. Ventilation features can be considered where appropriate, but their size and position should be developed around the structure rather than added randomly. Food-suitability claims should always relate to the actual material and coating selected for production.

Plain and Printed Kraft Pizza Boxes

A plain kraft pizza box works well where the natural brown board is enough or where branding will be added using labels or stickers. For stronger brand visibility, printed kraft pizza boxes can carry logos, colours, contact information or simple artwork across the lid and side panels.

Printing on natural kraft does not look identical to printing on white board because the brown base effects colour appearance. Artwork should therefore be prepared around the actual substrate, particularly where pale colours or high contrast are important. Craft Boxes notes that kraft surface colour should be considered before the printing method is chosen.

Simple artwork often works particularly well on kraft because the natural board remains visible rather than being covered completely.

Mini, Standard and Larger Pizza Boxes

Kraft mini pizza boxes are suitable for individual portions, children’s pizzas, samples and smaller food-service products. Standard and larger formats need more attention to panel span and board stiffness because the lid and base cover a wider area.

If several pizza sizes are sold, separate dielines may give a better result than trying to make one box fit everything. The wider bakery and food packaging range is also relevant where the same business sells pizzas alongside baked or takeaway products. Craft Boxes lists pizza boxes within its bakery packaging range.

Brown, White and Branded Kraft Pizza Packaging

Brown kraft pizza boxes retain the natural kraft appearance most buyers associate with this material. White-faced kraft or corrugated options can be considered where brighter graphics or a cleaner print surface are required. A phrase such as large white kraft corrugated pizza boxes generally points to this combination of corrugated structure with a lighter printable outer surface rather than an entirely different box style. The board colour should therefore be treated as part of the material and print specification.

Kraft Pizza Boxes Wholesale for Repeat Service

For kraft pizza boxes wholesale, consistent dimensions and board specification are important because the boxes are normally packed and assembled repeatedly during busy service periods.

Before approving a larger run, test the box with an actual pizza and check:

  1. internal dimensions;
  2. lid closure;
  3. board stiffness;
  4. grease and moisture behaviour;
  5. stacking performance;
  6. print position; and
  7. packing speed.

The best pizza box is not simply the thickest one. It should fit the food properly, stay stable during handling and suit the way the pizza is served and delivered.

Product questions

Kraft Pizza Packaging Boxes FAQs

Practical answers to common questions about dimensions, materials, printing and specifying Kraft Pizza Boxes.

Ask about your project
01What material is used for kraft pizza boxes?

Kraft pizza boxes can use suitable kraft board or corrugated kraft board depending on the required strength, size and food-service application.

02Are kraft pizza boxes corrugated?

Many pizza boxes use corrugated board because the fluted construction adds rigidity, but the final material should be confirmed around the product and required performance.

03Can kraft pizza boxes be custom sized?

Yes. The length, width and depth can be developed around the finished pizza and required packing clearance.

04Can you make mini kraft pizza boxes?

Yes. Mini formats can be developed for individual pizzas, small portions and other compact food-service applications.

05Can kraft pizza boxes be printed?

Yes. Logos, branding and suitable artwork can be printed on kraft surfaces, although the natural brown colour affects the final print appearance.

06Can I order plain kraft pizza boxes?

Yes. Plain kraft boxes can be used where printed branding is unnecessary or will be applied separately.

07Are kraft pizza boxes suitable for food contact?

The suitability depends on the actual board, liner, coating and intended food-contact arrangement. These should be confirmed as part of the specification rather than assumed from the term “kraft”.

08Can kraft pizza boxes handle grease?

The required grease resistance depends on the material and any barrier or coating used. The specification should be selected around the pizza and expected exposure.

09Are large kraft pizza boxes stronger than mini boxes?

Not automatically. Larger dimensions may require a stronger board because of the wider panel span and greater packed weight, but strength should be selected from the complete specification.

10Can kraft pizza boxes be ordered wholesale in the UK?

Yes. Once the dimensions, board and printing have been approved, the same specification can be produced for repeat or larger-volume food-service requirements.
