Kraft Cosmetic Boxes

Custom kraft cosmetic boxes are natural brown paperboard cartons made around skincare, makeup and beauty products such as serum bottles, cream jars, lip balms and small product sets. The size, structure and printing can be developed around the actual container and retail presentation. Buyer tip: measure the complete container with its cap, pump or closure fitted before confirming the internal box dimensions.

Structure & product fit

Build the packaging around the product

Packaging dimensions should start with the product and how it needs to be packed, protected, displayed, stored or transported. Internal space, board thickness, closures, inserts and assembly method can all affect the finished structural specification.

01

Measure the maximum product size Record the longest, widest and deepest points, including lids, closures, handles or projecting parts.

02

Define the required clearance Allow the space needed for packing, movement control, protective material or a fitted insert without unnecessarily increasing the box size.

03

Match structure to product weight Product weight, fragility and stacking requirements help determine suitable board strength and structural construction.

04

Consider how the packaging will be used Retail display, gifting, ecommerce, storage, fulfilment and transport can place different demands on the same packaging structure.

MEASUREMENT PRINCIPLE

Unless otherwise agreed, always confirm whether supplied measurements refer to the internal usable space or the external finished dimensions.

Packaging materials

Select material around the packaging requirement

There is no single board that suits every product. Material selection depends on structural strength, product weight, presentation, printing, storage, transport and any application-specific requirements.

Material family Typical role Surface & presentation Structural level
Kraft Paperboard Natural-looking cartons, sleeves, retail packaging and suitable lightweight structures. Brown or natural surface with distinctive print behaviour. Light–medium
Folding Boxboard Retail cartons, cosmetics, food, healthcare, gifting and other presentation-led applications. Smooth printable surface suited to detailed graphics. Light–medium
Corrugated Board Mailers, ecommerce, shipping, larger products and packaging requiring increased structural protection. Kraft or white liners with several printing routes available. Medium–high
Rigid / Greyboard Premium presentation boxes, luxury gifting and applications requiring a substantial non-folding construction. Usually wrapped with printed or decorative paper. High rigidity

Printing & finishing

Develop the print specification around the material

Printing and finishing options should be selected after the material and structure are understood. The suitable production route depends on the substrate, artwork, colour requirements, quantity, surface area and intended appearance.

01
PRINTING Choose the print process from the job specification
Digital PrintingSuitable for compatible substrates and projects where digital production provides the appropriate quality and production route.
Lithographic / OffsetUsed where detailed graphics, controlled colour and suitable production volumes justify lithographic printing.
Flexographic PrintingCommonly considered for suitable corrugated, kraft and transport-packaging applications.
Spot / Brand ColoursSpecific colours can be considered where brand consistency or restricted-colour artwork requires them.
02
FINISHING Add surface treatments only where they support the brief
Lamination & CoatingsMatte, gloss or other suitable surface treatments can alter appearance, handling and surface protection.
FoilMetallic, coloured or decorative foil can highlight selected branding or graphic elements.
Embossing / DebossingRaised or recessed areas can introduce tactile depth where the board and structure support the process.
Spot UV & Specialist EffectsSelective gloss, texture or other specialist treatments can be considered where technically suitable.

Custom Kraft Cosmetic Boxes for Beauty Products

Custom kraft cosmetic boxes are secondary packaging — they’re for skincare, makeup and other beauty products that already come in a bottle, jar, tube or compact.

The natural brown kraft surface gives you a distinctive retail look, but practical requirements come first. Container dimensions, weight, closure type, shelf orientation and how much printed information you need all shape the finished carton.

Packaging a wider beauty range? Have a look through the broader cosmetics & beauty packaging range when you’re coordinating kraft cartons with other cosmetic packaging formats.

Size the Carton Around the Complete Container

The internal box dimensions should come from the complete cosmetic product, not just the stated fill volume.

For bottles and jars, measure:

  • maximum width or diameter;
  • total height;
  • pump, cap or dropper dimensions;
  • shoulder or lid profile;
  • label thickness where relevant; and
  • required packing clearance.

A carton that is too loose can allow the container to move, while one that is too tight can make packing difficult or place pressure on pumps and closures.

For small bottle formats such as oils or serums, the related 10ml bottle packaging boxes provide a useful comparison where the container itself requires a more specific compact-carton layout.

Kraft Skincare Packaging by Weight and Presentation

A straightforward tuck-end folding carton can suit many lightweight skincare and makeup products. Heavier glass bottles, wide cream jars or multi-product sets may need additional support. An insert can help position a container, reduce movement or keep several products separated.

If the structure is not yet decided, the box styles and structural library can help compare folding cartons, locking-bottom boxes, sleeves, trays and other formats before the dieline is finalised. A more complex structure is not automatically better. The right choice is the simplest carton that provides the necessary fit, handling and shelf presentation for the product.

Natural Kraft Board and Its Limitations

Kraft paperboard cosmetic boxes are often picked for their natural brown surface and visible fibre character. Treat that look as part of the design, not as a neutral background. Printed colours can come out differently on kraft than on white coated board — especially pale tones and colour-critical artwork.

Brands weighing up natural kraft against other board types can look through the wider kraft packaging range to see where the material works across different packaging structures. Board stiffness should follow the product, too. A lightweight lip balm carton doesn’t need the same specification as a glass skincare bottle.

And the brown appearance on its own doesn’t prove recycled content, recyclability, or any broader sustainability claim. Confirm those points from the actual board and finished packaging specification.

Inserts for Bottles, Jars and Product Sets

Not every kraft cosmetic carton needs an insert. For a lightweight tube or compact product, a closely sized carton may provide enough retention on its own.

An insert becomes more useful when:

  • a glass container needs positioning;
  • the box is deliberately larger than the product;
  • several items share one carton;
  • the container has an unusual shape; or
  • presentation requires the product to remain centred.

The insert should be included when the internal dimensions are calculated rather than added after the outer carton has already been designed. For ecommerce fulfilment, remember that a retail cosmetic carton is not automatically a shipping box. Fragile products may still need suitable outer transit packaging.

Printing and Branding on Kraft Cosmetic Boxes

Custom printed kraft cosmetic boxes can carry logos, product names, variants, and other required information while still showing some of the natural brown surface.

With kraft cosmetic boxes with logo printing, prepare artwork around the actual substrate. Fine detail, pale colours, and low-contrast graphics may not come out looking the same as they would on white board.

Keep important artwork clear of folds, glue seams, and closure areas. Some finishes may be possible depending on the board, print method, and artwork — but foil, embossing, coatings, or other specialist effects should be confirmed against the actual production specification rather than assumed to be available on every kraft carton.

Leave Enough Space for Cosmetic Labelling

Cosmetic packaging often has to carry more information than the front-facing branding alone. Depending on the product and applicable UK requirements, artwork may need space for information such as:

  • ingredient listing;
  • nominal content;
  • batch identification;
  • product function;
  • usage or precautionary information; and
  • responsible-business details.

The available panel area should therefore be considered before the dieline and artwork are finalised. A small cosmetic box can become difficult to read if too much information is compressed onto one panel. Where appropriate, secondary information can be organised across side and rear panels.

The packaging itself does not make a cosmetic product compliant. The responsible business remains responsible for confirming which information and markings are required for the specific product.

Brown Kraft Packaging for Different Cosmetic Formats

One kraft material can cover an entire beauty range — no need to force every product into the same box dimensions or structure.

A narrow serum bottle works well in a tall tuck carton. A cream jar needs a wider footprint. Lip balms and small makeup products fit nicely in compact folding cartons, while multi-product skincare sets may call for dividers or a larger presentation format.

The result: consistent branding across the range, with each carton still built around the product inside it.

What to Confirm Before Requesting a Quote

Before finalising bespoke kraft cosmetic packaging, provide:

  1. product or container dimensions;
  2. container type;
  3. approximate packed weight;
  4. preferred box structure, if known;
  5. insert requirements;
  6. natural kraft or other board preference;
  7. artwork status;
  8. printing requirements; and
  9. required quantity.

Craft Boxes UK has no minimum order requirement, so the quantity can be based on the actual project rather than an imposed MOQ.

Product questions

Kraft Cosmetic Packaging Boxes FAQs

Practical answers to common questions about dimensions, materials, printing and specifying kraft cosmetic boxes.

Ask about your project
01What are kraft cosmetic boxes?

They are secondary paperboard cartons made from natural kraft material for packaging cosmetic containers such as bottles, jars, tubes and other suitable beauty products.

02Can kraft cosmetic boxes be made to custom sizes?

Yes. Internal dimensions can be developed around the complete cosmetic container, including pumps, caps, lids and required inserts.

03Are kraft cosmetic boxes suitable for glass bottles?

They can be, but heavier or fragile glass containers may require an insert, stronger structure or additional shipping protection depending on the product and handling conditions.

04Can kraft cosmetic boxes be custom printed?

Yes. Kraft cartons can carry logos, product names and other suitable artwork, although the brown substrate affects how printed colours appear.

05Can kraft cosmetic boxes include inserts?

Yes. Inserts can help position bottles, jars or multi-product sets where additional retention or presentation is required.

06Can kraft boxes be used for serum packaging?

Yes. Suitable kraft cartons can be developed around serum bottles, including the bottle body, cap, pump or dropper dimensions.

07Are kraft boxes suitable for cream jars?

Yes, provided the carton dimensions, board stiffness and any internal support are matched to the jar's size and weight.

08Are kraft cosmetic boxes recyclable?

Some kraft cartons may form part of a recyclable packaging specification, but coatings, finishes, adhesives, inserts and other components can affect the finished pack. The actual specification should be reviewed before making a recyclability claim.

09What information should go on cosmetic packaging?

The exact requirements depend on the product and applicable rules. Cosmetic packaging may need space for ingredients, nominal content, batch identification, usage information and other required labelling.

10Is there a minimum order for custom kraft cosmetic boxes?

No. Craft Boxes UK has no minimum order requirement.
